Welcome to Local 3954's web page. Local 3954 is a small group of career fire fighters consisting of  six members that protect the Town of Tolland Connecticut. The Town of Tolland, first settled before 1715, covers an area of forty-one square miles and is situated twenty miles northeast of Hartford.

The Tolland Fire Department is a combination department. We have Career (paid) Fire Fighters working Monday through Friday covering the hours of 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM and a group of dedicated volunteers covering evenings, weekends and certain holidays.

AMBULANCE 640

On June 15, the Tolland Fire Department put a new ambulance into service.

The new ambulance designated "Ambulance 640" — comes with several significant safety advancements, including a state-of-the-art emergency lighting system, distinctive accident avoidance chevrons of bright reflective material and a new audio warning system.

Department officials said due to the increased danger of collisions with vehicles whose drivers may be distracted or whose hearing might be impaired by the use of head sets and loud music, an innovative low-tone "Howler" siren has been added. The unit emits a special low-frequency warning sound officials said will "alert the most inattentive of drivers."

The new ambulance was built by Life Line Emergency Vehicles of Sumner, Iowa. And the town didn't even have to pay for it. The ambulance has been paid for by fees the town receives from those who utilize the ambulance.

The ambulance runs out of Station 240 on Merrow Road.
