AS OF 11:57 AM ON JULY 8, THE TOLLAND FIRE DEPARTMENT, BOTH CAREER AND VOLUNTEER,
HAS RESPONDED TO 753
CALLS!!

On June 15, the Tolland Fire Department put a new ambulance into service. The new ambulance designated
"Ambulance 640" — comes with several significant safety advancements, including a state-of-the-art emergency lighting
system, distinctive accident avoidance chevrons of bright reflective material and a new audio warning system. Department
officials said due to the increased danger of collisions with vehicles whose drivers may be distracted or whose hearing might
be impaired by the use of head sets and loud music, an innovative low-tone "Howler" siren has been added. The unit emits a
special low-frequency warning sound officials said will "alert the most inattentive of drivers." The new ambulance
was built by Life Line Emergency Vehicles of Sumner, Iowa. And the town didn't even have to pay for it. The ambulance has been paid for by fees the town receives from those who utilize
the ambulance.
The ambulance runs out of Station 240 on Merrow Road.
